Things I love right now

I have new finds galore at the moment. Not all food related, but certainly a good handful of them are. Here goes with my latest rendition of share worthy items I'm addicted to right now:

As I mentioned on Instagram recently, I've switched over to a moderate carbohydrate diet to get some control back. And so far, it's much better on my blood sugars. Finding low sugar desserts has been pretty challenging though, until I stumbled across these little gems when doing our latest Ocado shop.

These lollies are super delicious! They're also low carb at just 7 grams each and so perfect with the heatwave we're having right now. They're made of frozen Greek Yoghurt, so the texture is really soft and the strawberry ones are to die for. Hubby and I are both addicted. I think these would be pretty great for kids too.

I've been looking for a sweetener I can use in hot drinks, just to give a hint of sweet without any nasty artificial aftertaste. Sugar is my favourite, but it's not great to be injecting extra insulin all day for the teas and coffees I enjoy. Even more so when Autumn and Winter arrive. The kettle seems to be on a constant boil in this house!

Xylitol is my latest trial and definitely the best I've found to date. I find it subtly takes the bitterness away without adding too much by way of sweetness and no yucky aftertaste either.

If anyone else has recommendations for a great tasting sweetener, please email me!

Method products got a lot of press a few years back, with a great reputation for non-toxic products and some of the A List celebrities endorsing them. Suddenly Waitrose and Ocado stocked them, but you were hard pushed to find an extensive range anywhere else. Now they're available pretty much everywhere.

Well, I didn't get around to trying any Method products until we chose granite worktops for our new kitchen. Now, this product is the ONLY one which doesn't leave our beautiful black granite covered in streaks. The only marks you can see below are reflections of our ceiling spotlights. The granite is always sparkling. I just give it a quick wipe over each day with kitchen towel and their Daily Granite Cleaner.

Love this stuff so much - could not be without it.

Gone are the days when I had the time / inclination to buy and chop all my own salad. There's so much to get done each day so I need something quick, green and crunchy to throw together with some protein for mealtimes. Otherwise, I swear everything I eat would be cardboard coloured.

This Waitrose Rainbow Salad is the best I've found to date. It has so many great ingredients including:

  • Baby Spinach
  • Baby green lettuce
  • Baby red lettuce
  • Radish
  • Red Pepper
  • Beetroot
  • Courgette
  • Butternut Squash
  • Baby Chard
  • Pea Shoots
  • Mooli
  • Spring Onion
  • Coriander

The best part? Someone else did all the hard work. I can get around 3-4 meals out of this, usually paired with chicken / fish / egg.

Delicious today with leftover Hunter's Chicken tossed in mayo and half a slice of buttered bread. Coffee and cream on the side. Delicious.

It sounds crazy but these little sachets of Ella's Kitchen fruit purees are perfect for an adult breakfast. I put them with some high quality, full-fat (always) Greek Yoghurt and toasted almonds. They make a fab breakfast for when I fancy something light and moderate carb.

There are several flavours, so I'm in the process of trying them all out. I'll let you know next time which ones were the best. Strawberry and Apple was a hit this morning and came in at around 12 grams carbs.

Throwing toasted almonds across your work surface for artistic effect is totally optional.

We always pick this soup up at our local Tesco store. Frankly, I could eat this every day, I'm completely hooked right now. It's not super packed full of chicken pieces, so if that's what you're looking for think again. It's just a great tasting vegetable, slightly creamy base with a hint of chicken flavour and a few pieces thrown in for good measure. Perfect.

It's also fantastic for a moderate carbohydrate meal, coming in at just 9.6 grams for the whole container. To be honest, I tend to only inject for about 5 grams of carbs when I have this, otherwise it sends me low. Maybe it's offset by the fibre content, I'm not entirely sure of the why's yet.

I notice on their website they do a lot of different meals. Sometimes I just need instant! I'll have to check out the carb contents and give some others a try. I really fancy their 12 hour Beef Broth now I've seen it.

Pretty much all my skincare has ended up being Nivea. I read an article earlier this year on a comparison between Creme de la Mer (swoon) and Nivea and . . . Nivea came out on top when the lady was assessed by a Dermatologist after using one product on each side of her face for a month. Of course, this could be a fluke / pseudo science, but I had to give their products a whirl.

Now, having tried several of them, I am in love and just keep adding more to my collection.

My latest is their Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Cream Wash. The scent is really subtle and it's textured like a cold cream. A little goes a long way and it doesn't leave skin dry, like some cleansers - when they leave you with that squeaky clean feeling I dislike. The ones where if you don't get moisturiser on pronto your Hubby starts looking at you like your face aged 10 years in 10 minutes.

This leaves my skin soft enough that if I forget to moisturise I barely notice and best of all . . . I snagged 3 of them for just £6 on Amazon this week. Affiliate link included on the image below.

And finally, no 'Things I love right now' post would be complete without a puppy photo, right? I have a new addition to my desk and still can't believe he's small enough to fit on there.

He rocks the pink polka-dots really well I think!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend full of things you love.
